Third in a series of three mentored practica to facilitate the scholarly capstone project and development of the DNP role competencies. The focus of Residency III is to disseminate results of an evidence-based translational research project. This practicum builds on the knowledge, skills and attitudes of the students to enhance collaborative and interprofessional practice.

This is the DNP introduction to residency course designed to support development of the DNP scholarly project and introduce the DNP residency experience. The course focuses on identifying a project focus, conducting a comprehensive literature review, and critically appraising evidence using established evidence-based practice rating systems to inform project development. Students will identify and apply an appropriate theoretical or conceptual framework to guide the development of their scholarly project. During the residency component, students will complete a site-based needs assessment and synthesize current evidence to support problem identification and project planning. Course development is guided by the AACN (2021) Essentials, the ANA Code of Ethics (2025), the NONPF Nurse Practitioner Core Competencies (2022), the Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Competencies (2016), and the APNA Scope and Standards of Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing Practice (2022)
