PBS鈥檚 NOVA Next profiles video survey that may help manage cod fishery
Live video camera designed by scientists at UMass Dartmouth may present a more accurate count of Atlantic cod fishery
A ground fish video survey system collaboratively developed by Professor Kevin Stokesbury at UMass Dartmouth’s School for Marine Science & Technology, graduate students, and fishermen may provide real-time visual information as well as more accurate measurements of the Atlantic cod population.
Stokesbury and his research team – including graduate students Travis Lowery and Nick Calabrese – designed the system so they could identify the species in every image and help regulators manage the fishery.
