The Center for Portuguese Studies and Culture/Tagus Press (CPSC/TP) at the 糖心logo入口 is seeking candidates for the H茅lio and Am茅lia Pedroso/Luso-American Development Foundation (FLAD) Endowed Chair in Portuguese Studies for the Spring term of 2022 (January to May). 

Established in 2004 by the CPSC/TP, the H茅lio and Am茅lia Pedroso/Luso-American Development Foundation (FLAD) Endowed Chair in Portuguese Studies allows for the appointment of a distinguished scholar, professor and/or author, specializing in any area of the humanities and social sciences of the vast and diverse Portuguese-speaking world, comprised of over 220 million people in eight countries, on four continents. 

The H茅lio and Am茅lia Pedroso/Luso-American Development Foundation (FLAD) Endowed Chair in Portuguese Studies is a rotating, visiting distinguished scholar program that supports the interdisciplinary graduate and undergraduate programs in Portuguese Studies and the research objectives and publications of the CPSC/TP. The Endowed Chair will teach one graduate course during the Spring semester (January through May 2022) and will also lead a writer鈥檚 workshop over the course of the semester that will be open to the campus student body and members of the community.  The Endowed Chair will be available to contribute to the event and publication agenda of the CPSC/TP. If applicable, please provide a summary of potential collaborations on publications and/or the organization of events with the application. The rate of compensation for the 15-week period is $50,000 USD (before taxes). 

Teaching responsibilities include: Teaching a graduate course in the field of Lusophone literature and leading a semester-long student/community writer鈥檚 workshop.

The Endowed Chair will give a public lecture (to be recorded and published online by the Center) on a topic of her or his expertise and of interest to the Center for Portuguese Studies and Culture/Tagus Press.

Minimum/Required Qualifications:

  1. a PhD or M.F.A. in hand, or a distinguished record of publications; and
  2. a demonstrated ability to teach a graduate-level course in the field of Luso-Afro-Brazilian Studies with a focus on Lusophone literature.

 Preferred Qualifications: Record of event organization and/or editorial activity in the candidate鈥檚 field.

Applicants should submit a letter of interest, CV and a proposal specifying their planned research and activities for the semester, including a tentative course syllabus, through UMass Dartmouth's . All materials should be addressed to the Chair of the Committee, Director Paula C. G. Noversa.

Applicants must be authorized for employment in the U.S. on a full time basis. Employment-based visa sponsorship not available.
