Accelerated Master’s in Professional Writing & Communication

Available to current UMass Dartmouth English & Communication majors and minors, this accelerated Master’s program allows you to take graduate classes as an undergraduate so that you can then complete the MPWC program sooner.

  • Students may enroll in up to 9 credits of graduate level coursework during their undergraduate program.(Increasing from 3 credits to 9 credits.)
  • These courses can only come from the program’s required courses: ENL 501, ENL 505, ENL 510, ENL 620, ENL 621, and ENL 623.
  • Students who are majoring or minoring in ENL & Comm degrees may count one graduate class towards their undergraduate degree

Admissions Requirements

To qualify for this degree option, students must meet these requirements:

  • Have a 3.0 cumulative GPA and a 3.2 GPA in their major;
  • Have junior or senior standing in their major;
  • Be enrolled as an English & Communication department major or minor

Students must also have completed the following courses:

  • ENL 257 Introduction to Rhetoric
  • Any 300-level Professional Writing or Communication class
  • Any 300-level English & Comm Theory Course

Application Process

Students with junior or senior standing may apply to the program. To enroll in the accelerated program, students must apply by December 1 of their senior year.  

To apply students must submit the materials required by Graduate Studies and, additionally:  

  • Writing sample: academic or professional work that demonstrates readiness for graduate work (10-15 pages).
  • 2 letters of recommendation: from faculty in the field of your academic major or from supervisors familiar with your recent job performance. Applicants will be required to provide each recommender’s name and email address so that we can contact the recommender for the letter of recommendation.
