Chosen Name in IT Systems

CITS supports how chosen names appear and function in university technology systems. This page explains where chosen names display, how to update them in COIN, and what IT can assist with.

Update your chosen name in COIN

Students manage their chosen name directly in COIN.

From there, you can add or edit a Chosen Name and save your changes. Updates made in COIN are used by mulitple campus systems. Note: CITS does not approve or manage chosen names. COIN is the system of record.

Where your chosen name appears

Once set in COIN, a chosen name may display in the following IT-supported systems:

COIN (including authorized access views)
Canvas
Class and advising rosters
UMass Dartmouth Email display name
Library systems
Housing systems
Chancellor's and Dean's List Notifications
Alumni Relations systems

Because COIN information feeds many systems, faculty, staff, and authorized third parties may see your chosen name instead of your primary name in these systems.
