Provides a central access point to UMass Amherst鈥檚 broad range of environmental expertise, supports interdisciplinary training, research, and outreach programs addressing a variety of environmental issues and topics, and develops long-term cooperative research and training partnerships between the University and public environmental agencies and industry.
Among the programs administered by TEI: the National Environmental Technology Institute, which works collaboratively with industry to minimize pollution in industrial processes; and the Water Resources Research Center, which addresses a range of water issues including acid rain, drinking water quality, waste treatment and disposal, and water information management. The Water Resources Research Center was created in 1965 as part of a national system of Water Resources Centers authorized under the Water Resources Research Act of 1964.
