Self Service
Update University鈥慡upported Software
Self Service allows faculty and staff to install, update, and manage approved software on university鈥憃wned computers without submitting an IT request.
Update installed software
Self Service helps keep your computer secure and up to date:
- Available updates are clearly listed
- Security鈥憆elated updates may install automatically if not completed by the deadline
- You can install updates individually or all at once
Schedule installations (Windows)
On Windows computers, you can:
- Install software immediately, or
- Schedule installations outside of business hours
- Allow your computer to restart automatically if required
Temporarily install your own software (macOS)
macOS users can request temporary administrator access (30 minutes) through Self Service to install non鈥憄ackaged software:
- No permanent admin accounts are allowed on university鈥憃wned computers
- Installation activity during elevation is logged
- Your regular UMassD Logon credentials are used
Important Notes
- Self Service is intended only for university鈥憃wned computers
- Available software is limited until you log in with your UMassD credentials (macOS)
- Installation times vary depending on the software selected
- A stable internet connection is required

Open Self Service from the Dock or Applications folder
Log in with your UMassD Logon to see the full list of available software
Windows Software Center
- Open Software Center from the Start menu under Microsoft System Center
- Available applications appear as tiles or in a list view
Business Hours and Updates (Windows)
Windows users can define business hours to control when installations and updates occur:
- Default business hours are weekdays, 5:00 AM–10:00 PM
- Installations and updates are scheduled outside business hours when possible
- Important security updates may still install automatically
